yes, yes women

let me count the ways in which the feminine is divine

By Elsie CoenPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

I listen as you ponder and mold your flesh in and around

the waistband of the jeans I told you not to buy.

But here we are, yes women, with the sparkling cheekbones,

sharp tongues and wistful flaws dancing around our teeth

Like their curls of hair, their rough fingertips, the stubble

of their beards. Only an aside to you and me,

the men can wait in the back room. As I tell you of the girl

in eighth grade who told me we were no longer best friends

the anger seethes through your veins. Protecting what’s mine.

The body of Her and the mind of Us, we rest together

Until our togetherness puts us to rest. I wonder when the flame

will hit the wax, the wick crusted and charred, the twin flames

that suffocate each other so tightly that they snap. The way you snap

your fingers when you feel what I mean. He snaps,

you shout, only standing in the way. Our togetherness hurts no one but

ourselves, our walls pile higher, it is just the two of us inside.
