Words sitting at the tip of the tongue,

Swirling around my brain

Like a tornado threatening my inspiration

Ideas that had formed, crumble before this inner storm

Jumbled like a bad pot of jambalaya

Bouncing wildly like atoms

Becoming tongue tied

I grab a pen and a blank piece of paper

Attempting to force it out through the ink in hand

But my grip only tightens, my muscles paralyzed

Fearing that I might lose all that I have brainstormed

Fearing that they will be swept away,

Like waves pulling them out to sea

My anxiety is setting in, my chest tightens

My breathing shallows as the words escape me

A mental barricade

I could build a house with all these bricks in my mind

Frustrated I stare at the blank page,

I toss my pen aside, it’s useless to try

My bones crack as I stand from the chair I’ve slumped in

Stiffly walking away, leaving this premature idea to die

Perhaps I just need a little more time

To overcome this writer’s block
