Sounds, letters, words, and phrases make up what we speak,
Signals from our brain tell our mouth what should come out,
Thousands maybe millions, no telling how many we actually say,
They can be building blocks of a genius’ great mind,
They either make you feel better or tear you to shreds,
Only you have the choice on how they are used,
They always leave their mark on you, whether good or bad,
Positive or negative you can’t catch them once they’ve left your mouth,
Out of your throat over your tongue, through your lips,
You’ve delivered your weapons, or words of wisdom,
You are no longer in control once you’ve spat them out.
Just as they say, the pen is mightier than the sword,
Although the blow of the sword may draw the first blood,
Its wounds heal quickly, and will soon go away,
Words cut much deeper, even though its wounds you cannot see,
It’s scars last forever, their pain is never forgotten,
The pain makes itself at home, letting you know it’s here to stay,
Select your words wisely, before speaking in haste,
Consider the outcome and how the recipient will feel,
Think of them like a crumpled paper ball,
Your words causing every crease and wrinkle, your hatred every fold,
No matter how hard you try to straighten it, It will never be like before,
Not even a little, not even at all,
When given the chance, say I love you, It’s okay to let them be right,
Swallowing my pride may leave a dry lump in your throat,
It is better than scrambling to gather them back, scattered ashes in the wind,
You’ll never manage to capture them all, you’ll always fall short,
Tis better to say I’m sorry, admit your fault,
You never know when you’ll never have that chance again,
Upon their exit, those words may choke you on the way,
Those three little words won't end your life, put the past behind you,
Although they may taste like a burnt black crow,
Take a deep breath, need I remind you,
Millions and billions of words are spoken each and every day,
Your hollow words, broken promises, empty apologies mean nothing,
Until you actually mean what you say.
