winter howls at my door
the solstice fast approaches as does melancholy’s zenith

winter howls at my door
.
Soft skittering, scratching,
tapping along tired panes
as Arctic drawn airs
go long by
dragging along skin before
settling in, marrow deep.
.
winter howls at my door
.
Metamorphosis inverse,
regress & recess —
sunk cost fallacy in reverse,
sunk into a mattress
— heavy is as heavy does.
.
winter howls at my door
.
The longest night,
the shortest sight
lashes heavy with the dark
with illusory, never ending
end.
.
my bones ache with the weight
of a snow heaving, starry sky as
.
winter howls at my door
