Winds of Change

Taking on an entirely different meaning when read top to bottom versus bottom to top, this reverse poem charts the love of a couple whose romance fluctuates over the years like nature and the weather transforms through the seasons.

The sun gave birth, as two became one

A couple whose story had yet to begun

Feelings shone bright, drawn in by its cover

Prologue’s glowing light where they basked in each other

Sunshine kissed a Summer of bliss and all things fun

~

Heartbeats flutter, echoed in turtle dove’s sweet ring

Bated breaths await, budding beauty blossomed in Spring

Freshly bloomed daisy, its petals answered whether

“She loves me, she loves me not…”, are they birds of a feather

Forever flocked together, or merely fleeting fling

~

Their story unfolded as winter passed

Could this be real, how long would they last

Defrosted hearts asked the most burning of questions

A journey’s path hidden, illuminated by former flames’ lessons

Holding on to the warmth, evading season’s chilly grasp

~

Burn-off Autumn’s clutter, its embers smoulder

Letting go of losing battles that saw hearts grow colder

Vacant nest in empty tree, blank page in lieu of happy ending

Cautionary tale of war, its toll taken appears beyond mending

Dead leaves strewn across trenches, fading away like fallen soldiers
