branches shield the shadows

casting illusions fraught with fright

ravens call and bellow

collecting treasures in the night

willows cry hanging their limbs

and whippoorwills will cry

voodoo dolls and safety pins

sensing that something is close behind

clouds blow, billowing like spirits

and the chilled air takes a bite

though you can scarcely hear it

the things of midnight taking flight

quietly your mind goes numb

and silence brings its own delight

paranoia starts to succumb

and sanity begins to fight

the urge to just surrender

to face the facts and see the light

fear is a fierce contender

there's only one winner tonight

it's you or them, what will it be

what's the consequence to look behind?

setting your imagination free

who knows, maybe you will be fine
