Who forgot first
to willingly share,
enduring all burdens alone,
forgetting? resenting?
the other standing there?
What happened to flames
that once burned their light;
brightly illuminating
the darkest of days
and the blackest of nights?
When did we stray so far away
that we became virtually lost,
divided by chasms
too deep to climb from
and too broad to cross?
Where did we lose
the devoted affection,
that fused us together;
instead of two people,
a single connection?
Why did pledged, undying love
take its last defeated breath,
slowly, in tortured finality,
succumbing, retreating, to nothingness,
in the cruel, cold clutches of death?
