Who Am I?

The quest of self discovery

I AM

Who am I?

Alas a question that resonates from deep within. It is a question so many of us struggle to answer. Do we ever truly know the answer to this question? Do we dare to look deep within the very depths of our core to discover all that we are and are yet to become? This is our never ending struggle. A struggle I personally long to truly and deeply discover as I take the walk along a transcending and winding road, at times rocky, at times smooth as the still lake waters in the early mornings. But yet - never ending, for with each new day, the answer continues to seemingly change and I continue to wonder and ask, will I ever find the answer to the question of “Who am I”?

Who am I?

Still on a quest to find the answer. A quest that has taken me onto experiences never dreamed of. A quest which leads me to continue moving forward. A quest which takes me onto an enlightened path that yet forces me to look deep within the realms of that which comprises who and what I am. A quest that has me growing with each new adventure, each new person that enters my domain, and with each choice made to take that next step guiding me toward what I am yet to become.

So….

Who am I?

Today I can say as I come upon days of incessant self-reflection:

I am of a long line of strength and love..

I am from where the fields of sugar cane have gone on for days in the sweltering humid heat, blistered fingers, aching arms but, yes, hopeful hearts.

I am, as my mother would have said, “De el color de caramelo”, with long ringlets the color of cafe upon my head with a touch of fire ridden reds that could barely hold the curls so carefully placed with pins that seemed to go on for days on end that I could not complain about for mom always knew best of what my design should be.

I am, days of warming rays upon waking and cooling breezes upon sleeping, sudden gusts of rainfalls which come without warning bringing forth meditative beats as each drop falls upon the many tin roofs, bouncing off the cement floors, sinking deep into the earth’s hungry ground awaiting new growth of fruit-filled trees yet to come.

I am of musica stemming from the depth of the soul. Melodic tunes and words that fill the core of our corazon. Generous notes of upward beats which make up who we are, the mix of so many colors and customs passed down through generations filled with dreams yet to become. Measures telling the many stories of love, struggles and the coming together, body and soul.

I am a survivor of days filled with blackness and gray…moments never thought to be able to rise from; always looking for that small glimmer of light to grasp on to and follow.

I am that which now sees the true colors of the rising sun, hues that light the earth and nourish all that is within, filling us with hope as we breathe in the new dawn. That first awakening as we breathe in the new day with renowned hopes and dreams yet to come. The sudden onset of rising strength to possibilities and opportunities filled with a transient glimmer of enlightenment and sudden awakening of what is only within the grasp of courageous steps dared to be taken.

Who am I?

I am a promise. I am hope. I am the music from within. I am all the colors that fill the depth of our souls and bring us through our tomorrows.

I am...ME.
