There are times I often yearn
for the silence of the night
not the ticking of a clock
or the humming of a light.
Not the tarmac sucking tyre
or the buzzing motorbike
nor the drunken lager lout
and his asking of a fight.
Not the pub door ever open
or the car beam shining bright
but the fingers slowly gripping
and the window closing tight.
Just the comfort of a lover
and her warm flesh dancing white
oh, I very often yearn
for the silence of the night.
