White scar

A poem

I will always remember, wearing that dress, to that party.

He noticed, so loudly, the white scar from my surgery.

It was the first time, I feared what they’d say,

at that party, in that dress, on that memorable day.

The truth was what I would choose to say.

‘This scar saved my life‘, I loudly exclaimed.

And though it was painful, I felt vulnerable and exposed.

Left to this day is a scar you can’t see.

A scar that could‘ve easily crippled me.

Left to this day is a fond memory,

of when the fear of man a l m o s t silenced me.
