Your first I love you

was a whisper

and lasted less than a second in time

Hung between us like an eternity

as it shone a light in the dark.

Your next I love you

was also whispered

but more sure

as it broke the silence just once more

Then the third, the fourth

the major lift

Each a tick, a tick, another blip

Quicker now

and more urgent

I love you

I love you

Rapid and more furious

Steady and more sibilant

The silence silenced

A steady stream

of a sound that’s sure

of a love that’s a cure

warm and triumphant.

It’s a static now

the words are flow

of embers that glow

It is silencing all other sound

blocking out the world

A static and a blanket

when the last one it is said

the sudden silence is

like dead.

About the Creator

Leon Jacobs

Writing is a way of figuring out what you really think or feel. Naming the abstraction that can give rise to the chaos of existence. Words can lasso those stray thoughts and feelings - and tame them.
