Where Words Should Flow

When the truth stays quiet, the heart keeps score

A villanelle by Eliara Rae

Silence never pays where words should flow

For you no longer yearn for me like I do you,

Yet I ache for those days long ago.

All the words your actions never show

You say you crave something shiny and new.

Silence never pays where words should flow.

I discover now that it was all a show,

That I was never in on the secret too.

Yet I ache for those days long ago.

Losing your love was a devastating blow,

But now I’m stepping into something true.

Silence never pays where words should flow.

Now I am finally ready to glow,

Leave behind the cages of your zoo.

Yet I ache for those days long ago.

You yearn for me again and are met with a “no”—

For I love me more than I loved you.

Silence never pays where words should flow,

Yet I ache for those days long ago.

I write from the fire I survived.

I turn trauma into art, silence into music, and healing into something you can feel in your bones.
