Where Has My Forever Gone

You left me drowning in your wake,

A widow wrapped in old heartbreak.

You promised always, it was empty breath

Then kissed me once and married death.

I sit with ghosts who bear your name,

Their silence feeds this cruel flame.

God took the better half of me,

And left a shell where love should be.

So tell me this, if heaven’s real.

Why can’t the dead still feel?

Why can’t your hand reach through the night,

And hold me ’til the world feels right?

I wear your ring like cursed steel,

It burns my skin, it makes me kneel.

They call me strong, they do not see

The cracks that grow inside of me.

I scream your name in rooms alone,

Gnawing at guilt I don’t yet own.

Was I enough? Did you regret

The years we shared? The life we set?

I sleep in clothes that smell like you,

I talk to walls, what else to do?

Each mirror shows a stranger’s face.

One shaped by sorrow, lined with waste.

They buried you, but not your hold

You grip my spine, my heart gone cold.

I beg the grave, I curse the sky

And ask again:

Why you? Why die?
