When I Stand Before You

Poem.

By Paul StewartPublished 2 months ago • 1 min read
The better half.

Your beauty

it blows me down

And your radiance, the brilliance

Of your glow

just stops me

Where I stand,

when I stand before you

and I ache

And I am still as in love with you

So much, never too much

With love lust and longing

When you go,

even for a few days

when I stand before you

As my regret, guilt and shame

Hold me to account and spotlight

Bright and damning

My shortcomings and failings

And every stupid selfish sordid

Action or lie I've lived, we recall

When I stand before you

That's the part where another

would

stop

Think it's done

done neat and tidy

Trimmed to precise exacting standards

Tho l

ife isn't quite as n

eat and tidySo I ponder the ups and

downs the rights the wrongs when I'm weak you're strong

When you're

down I'm

down and we try to     move forward I press backward because of weakness and

rarely I fess up when I mess up

and it all starts again

often I wonder why we still are

When you

probably would be better off without

me

But we keep going keep

getting better

I hope and pray and hope some more

Yet I wouldn't trade

Wouldn't swap or replace

Anything

As you're always there

For me, with me

Whether life is kind or not

When I stand before you
