When Best Friends Die
Only a sadness remains with the memories

When Best Friends Die
There is a silence that comes without warning,
Not the gentle kind that soothes the mind,
But the kind that steals the sound from breathing,
And leaves your chest hollow and loud.
Your name still sits on my tongue some days,
Waiting for laughter that will not return,
Waiting for footsteps that knew my door,
Waiting for a voice that knew my storms.
We were not perfect, not polished or careful,
We were loud, broken, stitched together in truth,
We held each other through things unspoken,
Through nights that would have swallowed us whole.
Now I speak to you in empty rooms,
Like the walls might carry you back to me,
Like memory could take shape and answer,
Like love alone could undo death.
People say time softens the edges of loss,
But they do not know this kind of bond,
This was not something that fades or loosens,
This was a thread tied deep in the soul.
I see you in small things, cruel and sudden,
In songs we never finished, in roads we walked,
In laughter that catches and breaks halfway,
Because you are missing from the echo.
I would give anything for one more moment,
One more careless, ordinary day,
To sit beside you and say nothing,
Because nothing with you meant everything.
So I carry you, not in peace, but in ache,
In the weight that never truly lifts,
My best friend, gone but not gone enough,
Because you still live in every breath I take.
