what are we but scars

healed bruises and hope

a million lost stars

dangling for life on frayed rope

raised from the ramparts

and branded by sorrow

palpating souls

clinging to tomorrow

one foot on the floor

and yesterday’s borrowed

hallowed halls lined with ghosts

where grief and happiness follow

emotions left in shards

drifting away in the shallows

gently tending a spark

while the wild wind blows

guiding our way in the dark

on the way to let go

tattered curtains surrender

we bargain at the door

reality waivers

as new passageways are formed

navigating the water

but forever longing for shore
