What I didn't know before...

After Elif Shafak and The Island of Missing Trees

By Imola TóthPublished 4 months ago 1 min read

...was that some people stand in front of a tree and are drawn to the roots, concealed under the ground. That indicates deep emotional attachment to their heritage, identity, traditions. That I am the one who looks at the branches and the leaves. They say those people yearn for a sense of freedom.

But I have found my freedom in you, my love. The person who looks at the trunk—prioritizing order, safety, rules, continuity.

Is that a blessing or a curse? I don’t know yet, but to Hell with me if I’m not going to find out.
