what does love feel like?
do I love you?
What does it feel like to love?
How will I know?
Do you feel it with me?
When you said you felt there was something between us...
is that what you meant?
Do you feel like you could love me?
...
What does it feel like to love?
Is it longing for the days to pass faster
so as to be able to spend no time
between the last time I saw you
and catching a glimpse of your face once again?
Is that it?
Maybe it's when you asked for a ride
I'd pick you up from your hike
that winding road we'd travel down together
as you'd tell me stories of your adventures
and I'd be smiling enthusiastically,
urging you to continue on;
I wanted to hear it all.
Is it the desire I felt to bake you a special treat?
Is it knowing you'd be starving after such a strenuous trip?
Is it the excitement I felt when I pulled up and saw you standing there,
as you took in the view,
completely unaware of my presence?
Is that it?
...
What does it feel like to love?
Is it knowing I could live the rest of my days in your absence,
but absolutely craving your touch despite that fact?
Is it the way my body is in a state of peace
when you hold me in your arms?
Is it being able to sit criss-cross applesauce on my blanket,
the mountain-sunset view before our eyes,
your arms wrapped around, hugging me close
as we sit in silence and take in the beauty surrounding us?
Is it hearing the steady rhythm of your heartbeat as my head rests
by the sacred space in the centre of your chest?
...
What does it feel like to love?
Is it like the time, just last night,
when in the middle of a sharing of passion
you pulled away to take in my view?
Is it the way your eyes met mine?
Is it the way you looked through my irises,
into that which lied beneath?
Is it the way you stared into my soul,
you took it all in,
you saw it, you felt it, you acknowledged it,
and you smiled as you embraced all that encompassed my being?
Is that what it feels like to love?
