we're so gentle with babies

we should be that way when we get older

we're so gentle with babies

and patient with children

but we expect teenagers to grow up fast

start acting like an adult

but the world doesn't get less scary

and our big emotions don't go away

but we have to toughen up

grow up so you can follow the rules

stop trying to save the world

it didn't work when we tried

I wonder at what point our souls die

probably with our imaginations

can't be a creative thinker

and an effective tool for capitalist

if we were as gentle with each other always

as we are with babies who can't fend for themselves yet

the world might be softer

be more care-oriented

might move at our own paces

maybe we wouldn't feel so far from real connections

seriously who doesn't want everyone to be happy
