We Hold These Truths to be Self-Evident

.

By Raistlin AllenPublished 2 months ago 1 min read

Some things we just know:

if it’s not on the x-ray, there is no pain

(the doctors, they tell us so).

On the eve of the millennium, the world’s gonna blow,

and your body could melt on a high speed train

(some things we just know).

Smoking eases anxiety, most studies show;

women don’t feel desire and babies don’t feel pain

(the scientists, they tell us so).

Your race and your skull might make you slow;

queer identity is a disease in the brain

(some things we just know).

The earth is flat and off the end you might go;

the left-handed man carries a curse like a stain

(the holy men, they tell us so).

On our passage through time, there’s no need to look below;

The wise may be mistaken once, but surely not again.

Some things we just know

(history, it tells us so).
