She lit a candle over me
to melt and mend my wax heart
.
She was the one who had
Squeezed her hands around it
heating up to a softness
Where I cannot stand
.
To have its drippings hardening
on a pew
that does not want me any more
that says it welcomes
but does not make it comfortable
to sit down
.
She was trying to take
my wax heart outside
holding on
trying to find that last hard
part of me that needed kneading
.
into the shape of devotion that
does not have me question my heritage
of prayers and velas and
standing to give birth
.
to more wax hearts
