Was It All Just a Dirty Lie?
When one gives, and one takes
Your words were like stones
Thrown at a scarecrow of a man.
They did not hurt
How could they?
I was already numb.
The hurt occurred a while ago,
No, not really hurt, more like disappointment.
Either way, hurt or not, they bounced off me
Leaving bruises wherever they had been,
So that they could remind me of what just might have been.
Like two roads that intersected
But in a way that never crossed,
You never let me meet you
And I will live with that state of loss.
I gave you all I had,
My heart, my soul and more,
You ate it up, then spat it out,
Always wanting more.
And when I had had enough
Told you I could take it no more,
Suddenly, you wanted me
Like you have never done before.
The damage had been done
There was no more I could give,
I closed the door and walked away.
You turn your back as if to say,
I never loved you anyway
Was It All Just a Dirty Lie?
Till next time,
Calvin
