Kaleidoscope eyes
Wide and billowing and sublime.
Capture me with a glance,
A smile,
A word I can only feel.
Because when I look at you,
The world goes silent.
A mute play of shadows and light,
Falling hair on your shoulder,
The way the scenes play out just like
A movie...
I can’t hear a thing you say, but
It’s slow motion in the setting amber sun
It’s your arms twirling and the way
Your mouth moves so I know you’re
Laughing.
Ah,
It fills me like a warm cup of coffee.
Just these moments with you.
Yes, it feels like my whole soul is
Alive
Just remembering the glow of
Your unashamed smile.

Doing it for the troops
The others dropped like flies around me. We fought and struggled to get to this point. I'm the only one left now. The objective is right there. A mere two hundred feet away. The last of my team got a bullet to the head right next to me, but I couldn't do anything. I was able to locate and neutralise the sniper as he shot my friend, so his death was at least not in vain.
