War Inside

ink tipped fingerprints

clutch scribbled notes on a paper

the monster inside, just biding its time

peace disappears as quick as an instant

trading innocence for favors

stopping hope on a dime

time is a thief leaving nothing to show for it

tormented for years

she wore it there on her skin

the things from her dreams becoming reality

she tatted it for show

to keep it from getting inside

nightmares on display

still no one else saw them

changing her appearance and her peace of mind

she avoids sleeping to keep those demons at bay

she scribbles them down, knowing not what she'll find

come on, get a grip - is what they all told her

and she played along, they didn't care anyway

days into years and her whole life was a blur

it's hard to keep track when you're stuck in replay

battles unseen, a fresh meal for the chaos

living a life somewhere out in the fray

you never really know who is walking among us

there's a whole war inside her, oh but she'll never say
