there’s a hard protective shell
guarding the softness of the heart
from the wound's I hide so well
a guardhouse crafted from the start

shielding my steps in the shadows
images of angels on the wall
battered and bruised, faithfully follow
wherever I wander down the hall
*
spirits linger, gliding freely
in a flash of my illusion
a black star rises from the heat
signaling a calm and sure conclusion
