Valentine's

02/14/18, A Poem by BL

a hallmark holiday, coming and going,

but a smile on my heart reminds me

of how you checked your watch

and whispered, “happy valentine’s day.”

you held my gaze and told me

i am perfect to you.

my heart stopped and beat again

wildly. has anyone ever told me that?

now, you have, and i can’t escape it.

this link lets you shine on what no one

else sees, but you keep coming back.

every sappy-sweet moment leaves a

sticky kiss soaking in, slowly sugar-

coating my thoughts. this is happiness.

you’re witness to my worst times, dear.

i hope i never understand you fully

so that i am endlessly fascinated by

everything you are.

i don’t like to grant myself grace, but

it would be a crime to miss out on you.
