Unusual Leader: From Top Model to Lion Mother to San Sister

Ode to a beautiful friend and rare soul

I hide, small,

inside a tree bark skin

thick,

thicker,

so nobody could hurt me

(or know where I’ve been)

Then.

You appeared.

Unusually kind.

Full of San and Africa.

A brown freckle of Pau

—meaning peace

staining your blue

iris,

dramatic symmetry

in your Nordmenn face

made to

inspire us.

Silence.

My skin now thin,

thinner than

a cell’s membrane.

Your light my light

Love through osmosis

came.

Inmawe Maya,

Our Mother

a micro-drop of fear

could’ve broken me.

Yet, sister,

friend,

it’s now I don’t fret

going higher.
