And Wildflowers

I hide in sycamore shadows

Like wildflowers through cracks,

Soft breezes in Meadows

A light gentle laugh

But my sleep offers no peace

I cannot find rest

It withholds my dreams

Holds them close to its chest

Thunder rolls over

The lightning soon follows

Stealing luck from my clover

Growing deep in the holler

When you say you love me

I grab my umbrella

And wait for the sea

of your love to wash over

Like the dew in the morning

envelopes the rose

Your love comes with a warning

Red flags boldly flow

Your eyes growing stormy

Dark clouds bridge your nose

I'm a fair-weather lover

I've seen what the storm brings

I'll hide here. under cover

Until the morning doves sing

Happy comes with the sunrise

And the calm ripple of waves

That softens my eyes

And remembers my name
