What’s missing?

We made sense

You were part of my equation

I was part of yours

You were there for me

I was there for you

*2*

Counting by twos felt natural

Two cups on the counter

Two hands reaching for the same blanket

Two bodies becoming one

It all added up…

.

.

.

Until it didn’t.

.

.

.

What happened?

How did my heart become divided?

Why are you subtracted from me?

*1*

Alas,

Your negativity

Is stronger than any positivity

I can muster

I’m nothing but a zero,

Holding out for my plus 1 to return to me

*0*

No matter how I count it,

We don’t add up

As deficient as we are,

I crave new numbers

*-1*

Some equations

don’t

have

a

solution
