Two Hearts, One Goal
A future built on love, trust and honesty

Two Hearts, One Goal
She met him on a rainy day,
Outside a little shop;
He held his coat above her head
And waited for the rain to stop.
He asked if she would walk with him,
She smiled and took his hand;
They spoke until the shops had closed,
With nothing grandly planned.
He learnt the way she took her tea,
She learnt his quiet ways;
And soon they found a thousand reasons
To share their ordinary days.
One evening, standing at her door,
He brushed her damp hair dry;
She caught his hand against her cheek,
Too moved to tell him why.
Their first kiss tasted of the rain,
His coat slipped to the floor;
And when he whispered, “Shall I stay?”
She softly closed the door.
They saved their pennies in a jar,
For somewhere of their own;
A little place with room for dreams,
A key, a garden, home.
There were no roses every day,
Some weeks the money went;
But he would leave her little notes
That said how much she meant.
And sometimes they would disagree,
Let foolish words take flight;
Then one would reach across the bed
And hold the other tight.
The years put silver in his beard,
And lines beside her eyes;
He still would watch her cross a room
As though she were a sweet surprise.
One evening by their garden gate,
She asked, “What was your dream?”
He kissed the hand still held in his:
“This life with you, my queen.”
Two hearts, one goal—to share a life,
Whatever time might bring;
And in the home their love had made,
She wore his simple ring.
