Trick or treat!
It's time to be scared
But isn't that always?
...
The crunch of leaves mimics the snap of bones
Laugher mocks my screams of truth
Chocolates swirl with my vision
And the treat of it all
is that they believe.
...
The dusk-time haunts memories of hatred.
Shrieks of the wild dance with your shivering heart
All in a game of make-believe.
There is too much enjoyment
In what cannot be possible
And hope is the Universe's heaviest enemy.
It isn't even time, yet.
But we all brace ourselves for the trees to slyly camoflage
Giving us permission.
...
So we howl at the moon
For just that one night
We treasure the adrenaline
And live for the fight
All until morning
Where our dreams start to blur
We huddle close to our homes
Watching the trees change once more.
Their bare arms stretch out into the sky
Quietly whispering goodbye
So we wait because next time
Halloween lasts every night.

Hi everyone, thank you for reading! It isn't even Autumn/Fall where I am, and Halloween unfortunately isn't the biggest thing... but still! I though i'd get into the mood of pumpkins and spooky season! I saw someone else's entry to an October prompt and i thought i'd choose my own.
Here's the prompt page (thank you to Chloe Rose Violet 🌹 for the prompt):

Thank you again everyone and happy (almost) October :)
