Response to Planet Earth
Dear Earthlings,
We got your Arecibo communiqué
Way way back in the day
We decided we'd now reply
But you're probably wondering
After all this time, why?
Well, it's really simple you see
You're developing at an alarming speed
Especially with AI
And all sorts of marvelous machinery
So, we'd like to seriously impart
That you're off to a rocky start
Putting matters of head over heart
It's all been done before
The horse behind the cart
We learned eons ago
You reap what you sow
As your famous bard once said
Not all that glitters is gold
We can easily predict where you'll be
Given your current trajectory
Lest you repeat history
We ask that you prepare
Or woe is all of humanity
Through tidal waves and fires too
Green mother tries to express to you
That this way is marked
For the many to become the few
You've turned things upside down
Traded wisdom by the pound
Discarded truth when it was found
Treat life like convenience
Spreading your lies all around
Your wars will become great
So will your sufferings and your hate
As you continue to blame
Everyone else for your mistakes
There will be no guarantees
No salvation in cryptocurrencies
No sentient alibis
To help with your security
No we won't intervene
As you stare at your screens
Slicing up your faulty genes
You must be the one to
Turn nightmare to dream
Technology goes only so far
Even as you sail through the stars
It isn't bringing you closer
It's driving you further apart
Because it is in the how
Which you treat each other now
For you must make kindness
The unbreakable vow
Otherwise it's a sad sad song
To which we'll sing along
Over centuries strong
That you once had it all
But it all went very wrong
As we end this somber transmission
We do hope for a true coalition
But not until you understand that
Love is always the primary mission
Sincerely,
Your Interstellar Neighbors
