Train Journey to a Concert

Sheltered alone in a cabin
colorless and spare
as daydreams waft in,
light as air
•
I breathe the rush of spring
green stretched across open
horizon, accelerandos of fragrant
honeydew wind weave sweet
memories with warm sun
•
Each rolling hill, a melodious phrase
crescendos to the sforzando of
a pointed church steeple—
centuries survived under cobalt skies,
filled with music of a people
•
But it’s the rapeseed’s fortissimo
yellow which rings through
the surreal, smeared glass view
like a soprano in a choir
whose voice draws you
•
The tremolo of a buzzing bee
takes its seat next to me—
I hear my startled breath,
as it joins me in rest
for a less solitary journey
