Too Needy
You call before the morning wakes,
Then wonder why I need some air.
Every silence becomes a question,
As though my absence means I don’t care.
You measure love by constant contact,
Counting every message I delay.
Needing proof with every heartbeat,
Never trusting what I choose to say.
You lean so hard upon my shoulders,
Expecting me to hold your fears.
Every doubt becomes my burden,
Every worry fills my ears.
Love should never feel like pressure,
Or chains disguised as sweet embrace.
It needs room enough for breathing,
Not a race I have to chase.
You ask for more than I can offer,
More than any heart can give.
Love cannot survive in shadows,
Where one forgets how they should live.
I miss the man who stood with confidence,
Who smiled without seeking applause.
Now every moment needs reassurance,
Searching for invisible flaws.
You never hear the words I tell you,
Only those you fear inside.
No amount of love can quiet
The doubts you always choose to hide.
Until you learn to stand alone,
And find your worth without my view,
You’ll keep mistaking love for needing,
When love should simply carry you.
