Too Much Sadness Makes the Heart Bitter

There comes a point where sadness changes shape,

Where it is no longer soft, or tearful, or kind,

It hardens, slow, like frost on the inside,

Until even warmth feels like a lie.

I remember when I used to feel things gently,

When pain would pass like a passing storm,

Now it stays, sits heavy and unmoving,

Like a stone placed deep inside my chest.

Too many nights of quiet breaking,

Too many mornings with no light to hold,

Too many losses stacked without mercy,

Until the heart forgets how to open.

Kindness begins to feel like distance,

Hope begins to feel like a trick,

And every smile wears a shadow behind it,

Because you know how quickly it can fall.

I do not cry the way I used to,

Tears have grown tired of my face,

Now it is something colder, sharper,

A silence that cuts instead of bleeds.

People say do not let it change you,

But they do not carry this weight,

They do not hear the quiet turning inside,

Where softness becomes something harder.

Too much sadness does not just hurt you,

It reshapes the way you exist,

It builds walls where love once lived,

And calls it strength when it is only survival.

And still, somewhere beneath the bitter edge,

There is a fragile, stubborn spark,

Not hope, not yet, but something breathing,

Refusing to fully disappear.
