Burnt heart, grilled.
Hopes rose and are stilled.
There are too many events,
racing by at my fatigued expense.
I’ve got to let go of the cantankerous words that rattle in my soul.
It’s been years but they still linger,
they still hold me in a rusty old ringer.
I release the words to the fire’s blaze,
and strive to listen closer to nature’s gaze.
Ushering calm, without a qualm,
and pausing to remember a favorite Psalm.
