An appetizer should be the prep

For a meal that will be a first step.

- Drinks (an aperitif or two)

*

Sides will have to be such

That their taste is not too much.

- Snacks or a soup for you

*

The entrees are what you’re waiting for;

An empty belly and her words opened the door.

- Chicken or fish? That’ll do

*

You don’t hear her over dessert, right?

She stares out the window (a quiet night).

- Cheesecake is better than tiramisu

*

Coffee or tea before you pay?

Before she leaves? Already, she’s on her way…

- One espresso, just for you

On his own

*
