Tomyum Dreams in a Vietnamese Bowl

Where Chili Meets Charm: The Tale of Bun Thai Tomyum

By Thang BuiPublished about a year ago • 1 min read

A poem about Bbn Thai Tomyum

In a humble bowl, where steam does rise,

A tale begins beneath the skies—

Of lemongrass and chili flame,

And bún that softly calls your name.

The broth, a golden, dancing heat,

Where East and Southeast flavors meet.

Tomyum’s fire with Vietnam’s grace,

A fusion made in time and taste.

Shrimp like coral, curled and proud,

Float gently in their spicy cloud.

Mushrooms sliced in crescent moons,

Swim beneath the sun at noon.

Tomatoes burst with blushing red,

Their juices in the broth are spread.

A squeeze of lime, a tangy kiss,

A citrus twist you dare not miss.

Cilantro, mint, and basil leaves

Whisper secrets as they weave

Through every slurp, each tangled thread,

Of bún like silk, so lightly spread.

The chilies bite, then quickly fade,

A dance of heat that love has made.

Your lips may burn, your brow may sweat—

But tell me, would you soon forget?

For in this bowl, both fierce and kind,

Is fire and soul, in broth combined.

It sings of lands where oceans meet,

Of markets loud and steaming streets.

Of vendors calling through the dawn,

Of pots that simmer all night long.

Of laughter shared at plastic stools,

Where spice and joy both break the rules.

Bun Thai Tomyum, oh magic flame,

You wear no crown, yet earn your name.

A queen of soups, both wild and wise,

A storm beneath calm, hungry skies.

So raise your spoon, embrace the steam,

Dive deep into this chili dream.

For in your heart, you’ll always know—

The fire that lives in every bowl.
