To One Invisible

What if your true love wasn't human?

I first heard of your kind

in my high school literature class

in stories long forgotten

about places that weren’t real.

.

Just a two sentence reference

but in my heart

something sang.

.

Did you hear me

across the universe?

.

Years later in college there is a painting

on the wall in a museum

I am once against struck speechless

.

That night I feel a presence

curled beside me in bed

quiet and still

listening to my heart.

.

No one knows

of the us that exists

in quiet in-between moments.

.

No one knows of your

arms around me in the dark.

.

You are unseen to others

but to me

you are as visible as light.

.

I am not as alone

as others see me

and it all started, Beloved

with a single sentence.
