You’re just another pretty face in LA
Until you let someone learn you deeper
A single flower where a million suns hover
Wishing they could be someone
Just another day in sunny LA
You wish the rain would keep her
From growing amidst lighting and thunder
Her petals seen by a million and one
Don’t we all wish we could be someone?
Maybe she’ll see your face everywhere she runs
But no matter how much you hope to be seen
One times one is still one
I was a sunflower blooming in the cracks
A sidewalk between Doheny and La Cienega
Among such beauty
Looking but no touching, stuck in my place
Everyone they walked around me
And reminded me of what I lack
Among such beauty
They said “try to be something”
The city said know your place
You wanted LA to love you
And all you got were likes
Only one desired the inner you
And you pushed him to the side
By now he’s in the rear view
As you rev your engine through the hills
To meet a man who doesn’t see the real you
And go home feeling empty still
We wanted cheap shots
So we got the cheap thrills
Like kids addicted to candy
In the form of happy pills
Is this what it’s like to love here?
To fall for objects and ideas and filters
I examine you through my designer shades
As your petals begin to wilter
NYC is the city that never sleeps
LA is the city that sleeps around
Her phone stays blowing up
Asking when she’ll be around
There was nothing left to us
As more flowers filled the town
We no longer had attention from the sun
As our petals hit the ground
