To Be Chosen, Not Needed
The quiet strength of mature love
Mature love isn’t about saying, "I can't live without you."
Many people believe that love is synonymous with dependence—the feeling of being unable to survive without someone else. It's the kind of story that starts with:
"I can’t live without you."
But after experiencing more of life, we slowly realize that truly mature relationships are actually the opposite.
Truly mature relationships are built where two people, both capable of living independently, still choose each other. It’s not because they need to depend on someone, and it’s not because they are afraid of being alone.
It’s the realization that: "I am fine on my own, yet I still choose you."
A truly healthy relationship won't make you feel inferior, nor will it force you to constantly prove your worth. If a connection makes you feel increasingly small, it might not be because you love too deeply; it might simply be that you are not on equal footing.
True intimacy is never about one person saving another. It is about two people who are already capable of living well, willing to stand side by side, allowing each other’s lives to become wider, farther, and freer.
So please remember: what you deserve is not just to be needed, but to be chosen earnestly by a clear-headed and free person.
