It isn’t about arranging the Words to a Poem in some given order, as opposed to creating Lines of Verse which have a Rhythmic Flow to them. There is a certain skill required when Composing Lines of Poetic Verse and the focus should be more about this than concerning yourself with Rhyme! Some Poets would go so far as to say that a Rhyming Poem requires more skill in its construction, and they’re not entirely incorrect when stating this.

Poetry is a form of Art and should be approached as though one were Painting on a Sheet of Canvas. However as opposed to using an Artists Brush and Painting on an Easel, you are in fact Painting Word Pictures upon your Tablet, Notebook, Laptop or whichever devise may be at your disposal. Some of us Poets still Write with a Pen 🖊 or even a Pencil.✏️ Writing with a Pen 🖊 was certainly the way in which I once used to Write out my Poems. However this is no longer a viable proposition!

When you decide upon the sort of Poem you would like to Write, and having taken the Subject matter into consideration, it’s very important to think about things such as Layout and how many Verses should make up your Poem. I usually begin with a chosen Title beforehand to act as a form of Reference if you like. This also helps me to set the Theme of my Poem which I believe is important to the overall development of the piece. One important point here would be, “Do you want your Poem to be a Rhyming one, or would you really prefer a much more Fluid and Freeform Style?” I Personally tend to favour both which can make for more a more challenging approach on occasion.

If thinking about a much more Fluid Form of Poem, it’s extremely important to understand the way in which Poetic Verse is constructed and a basic knowledge of the way in which English Vocabulary is related to this. Having been or being in possession of a good all round Education can be most helpful when forming Lines of Poetic Verse. Anyone could string a series of Words together and believe them to be Poetry, however there’s more to Writing a good Poem than that would otherwise imply.

Poetry should be about expressing your Feelings and Emotions in the form of Verse. This is a Language which is often quite different to that Spoken everyday. You’re looking for some response to your Words; a Reaction if you will, from the Reader. This is why it’s so important as a Poet to not only get your Words across, but for them also to have meaning for the Person whom shall be Reading them. Often in well Written forms of Verse, the Poet is Speaking from the Heart 🤍 and sometimes from the Soul. It isn’t so much about the Words as opposed to how you Personally use them. Therefore when you ask the Question, “In Writing a Poem, is it necessary to arrange the Words properly or correctly?” Then my Answer shall be to think about the Poem you wish to Write and of what it is you want to say, and how you shall arrange it, Verse by Verse but in a way in which the Reader may Relate to it; I hope this helps in some way towards you becoming a real or true Poet! 💁‍♀️
