All is quiet
The night is thick
Nothing is stirring
Not even an owl
The stars are hidden
Behind the clouds
Moonless night
Evil lurking
In the shadows
A task to be born
A task to be done
Many have failed
Many have gone home
Finally, one who comes
Who is too scared to quit
Too scared to stop
So she must go on
So she continues
On her way
Carrying her lamp
Holding it close
For it’s warmth
Afraid that if her task
Is not completed
Then, it will be the end
The night has been long
Longer than the past nights
With no sun
Life has started to wither
She pushes on
This would be hero
Little thinking of more
Then, one foot at a time
She’s scared to stop to rest
For fear that she will
Freeze in her fright
So she keeps moving
Even when her feet
Feel like lead
She continues on
Not for those left behind
But in her anxiety
That if she were to stop
She would cease to exist
So she keeps going
Until she sees
The Nest of the Sun
Where she throws her lamp
Into the dry bedding surrounding
The dead sun
Setting it ablaze
And releasing the sun
To begin it’s steady movement
Across the sky
Lighting up the world
And giving off
Life-saving rays of heat
Now that her task is complete
She lays her head down
Resting her weary feet
Glad the evil has been
Set at bay for yet another day
Thankful she’s finally done

Lovely!
This is how I choose to believe the sun rises from now on.
Mythically beautiful, Mother. Worthy of the Greeks themselves.
Thank you for the encouragement to go on! I sometimes want the easier, softer way of retirement. 😉😊💕
This is fantastic, I love the story telling.
