Time Takes Its Time

And Then We See Just How It Flies

pulling up my eyelids

dragging these old bones out of bed

plenty of padding guarding my ribs

before you know it I'll be dead

time takes its toll, for damn sure

I hope it enjoyed it's little laugh

it sure blew past me in a blur

I wish I could have some of it back

maybe I'd visit me at seven

when I didn't give a damn

eight, nine, ten even eleven

when I could be just who i am

carefree me at seventeen

before the pressures found me faking

how much I was trying to like me

and this new me the world was making

I'd for sure be twenty eight

no kids, no man, no ring to bind me

all of the thirties, a new mom

with my parents, still here, beside me

and most days in between, I guess

I really had it pretty good

till two thousand and eighteen brought the mess

changing me - more than I knew it could

so here I am, much like I was then

living a life, slipping right past me

looking for that elusive zen

that somehow, still, I fail to see

each day is a true blessing

though some days I struggle through

with a little redirecting

I'll find the silver in them, too
