Time of Realisation

The gazing of the night sky

My heart opens wide as it gazes upon the picturesque sky,

The darkness wraps me within its comforting arms,

As I lay upon the soft grass on the side of the hill,

And I smile at the heavens above, it relaxes and calms.

There’s no moon to cast upon the lay of the land,

So the darkness is almost totally complete,

It’s only the twinkling of the prettily lit stars above,

That causes my breath to catch and my heart to beat.

Each far off twinkle shines like metallic glitter over the darkening night,

Winking at me as a smile adorns my face,

A meteor blazes off to my left, racing in a trail of light,

Late for the party, or so it feels, as it trailblazers the sky in its race.

An orchestra of winks and blinks chorus the horizon,

Each playing to its own tune light years away,

A bright light of universal magic, cast across midnight,

As they party and frolic, dip and sway.

My smile widens in glee as a magnificent star shoots before my eyes,

Smouldering in its age old millennium, racing against time,

Swirling and cavorting, a night time game of fun,

As its playmates twinkle, blink and continue to shine.

Pinpricks of light piercing the full darkness of time,

Party lights that twinkle and send me off to my dreams of peace,

Where I ponder the miracles of our precious universe,

And the moon finally rises as the piece de resistance centrepiece.

The sky at night is full of magic and mystery,

And I welcome the time I spend lazing and gazing,

My heart fills with awe, my breathing relaxes,

And I can’t help but realise life sure is amazing.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

  • Oh wowwww! This was so magical and mesmerising! So beautiful my friend!

  • Isn't it amazing how a view that can make us feel so small within the universe can at the same time fill us with so much wonder & grace as to be without bounds.

An orchestra of winks and blinks chorus the horizon, This was my favourite line 🥰 I loved all of this, however, you truly capture the magic of sitting under the night sky ✨✨✨
