time is not the only component of wisdom
it takes a desire to constantly grow
a stagnant mind is easily corrupted
they have learned everything they believe they knew
and have no heart for anything new
empathy is wisdom
only it allows us to embody the spirit of another
to hold their heart in our hands
and know their needs are different
and their struggles do not make them less
you have to feel your own pain
and know its value
most are too afraid
they got old and wasted their days
life has been hard
that is inevitable
they never rose from the ashes
they live among the blackened bones
unresolved trauma becomes the weapon
that forged their philosophy
and open wounds become their wisdom

Doing it for the troops
The others dropped like flies around me. We fought and struggled to get to this point. I'm the only one left now. The objective is right there. A mere two hundred feet away. The last of my team got a bullet to the head right next to me, but I couldn't do anything. I was able to locate and neutralise the sniper as he shot my friend, so his death was at least not in vain.
