Time felt distorted
I had no place to go
I thought she loved me
I didn’t know
That her love was chained
To a past
I didn’t know
The cuffs were padlocked
Bound
Held tight
To a future I could never fight
I tried to save her
If only I’d known
Her past was a story
She never owned
So she left us
Alone and confused
I miss her
And wish my knowledge
Now I could use
To say mum, you tried your best,
One day, maybe,
We’ll meet again
And the past will be put to rest
