Throw Away the Key to My Heart

It’s broken now beyond fixing

Throw Away the Key to My Heart

You stood outside my silence

Like you still belonged inside

Hands full of old excuses

Eyes with too much to hide

I gave you every soft part

Every dream I tried to keep

You watered all my sadness

Then left me there to weep

Now the windows stay wide open

Cold air fills every room

Photographs lose their colour

Flowers forget to bloom

I hear your name in strangers

In songs upon the rain

Every road I tried escaping

Still circles back to pain

So throw away the key now

There’s nothing left to save

The love you held so carelessly

Lies buried in its grave

No letters left unopened

No heartbeat left to steal

Only scars beneath my skin

That time refuses to heal

I built these walls from heartbreak

Brick by brick alone

Turned every shattered memory

Into a heart of stone

One day the ache may soften

One day the storm may part

Until then keep on walking

Far away from my heart
