Thought Left Unsaid

and unheard

I thought I might have something

that I wanted to say to you.

So, I shut my mouth.

*

Those words,

I thought those words might help you.

Those words you need to hear.

So, I bit my tongue.

*

I choked back the words I wanted to say,

because you know I’ve said them,

and you know you've heard them

more times than I {we both} can say.

Over and over.

A lifetime of over and overs.

A thousand million times, in one form or another

I’ve spit out those words.

I yelled/I cried/I pleaded/I've screamed into the wind.

I even tried singing a lullaby.

Didn’t like the tune.

And the baby didn’t hush.

So, this time, this time

I clenched my jaw and sewed my lips sealed.

*

Those words, those words I wanted to say;

those words, those words, they stayed.

Locked in my mind,

For once, this time.

For once again, again I knew,

that I could never get through.

For how much I share,

you will never hear.

+

You will never care

-

And this I know for sure to be true,

for I was once the mind of you,

and you are still and shall always be,

the very heart and soul of me.

And maybe, just maybe, someday we

Can put ourself(ves) back together.

If only You {I}

Would.

Listen.
