THIS WORLD

Changing time in a broken world

THIS WORLD

This world wakes up each morning
And paints a smiling face,
But underneath the colours
There hides a darker place.

The pavements hold the homeless,
The mansions lock their doors,
The rich complain of nothing,
The poor sleep on cold floors.

A child cries out from hunger,
A mother hides her fear,
While someone changes channels
So they do not have to hear.

The soldiers follow orders,
The guns decide who falls,
While frightened little children
Write prayers upon the walls.

The oceans choke on plastic,
The forests lose their trees,
Yet money keeps on talking
While nature begs us, “Please.”

We judge another person
By clothing, faith or skin,
But never stop to wonder
What pain they hold within.

Kindness became a stranger,
And truth was bought with lies,
We see the world is dying,
Yet still we close our eyes.

But somewhere hands are helping,
And someone shares their bread,
Someone holds the lonely
When all their hope has fled.

A flower breaks through concrete,
A bird begins to sing,
Reminding every broken soul
That darkness is not king.

This world is bruised and bleeding,
But love is living still,
And while one heart shows kindness,
There always will be will.

So let us be the candle
That darkness cannot hide,
And make this wounded world feel
That someone’s on its side.
